The world's most wealthy philanthropist sponsored the creation of "Humanity," an international science facility located on Mars.  Humanity's breakthrough research has found a way to modify DNA to create an Era of Super Beings.

A social media app., "Hero," was created to organize the vigilantes and combat the rampant villainy.  "Hero" was regarded so highly, that the number of subscribers a Hero has became the standard to measure their worth.

"Hero" grew in popularity with each new generation; However, this has made it harder to stand out. Unfortunately, the spirit of the app. quickly became perverted by degenerates seeking attention and influence.  They push the boundaries on what is acceptable and how they conduct themselves using the app.  Those that couldn't keep up with this new meta either quit or turned to crime.
